‘‘People don’t go into the news business to make profits or report, neutrally, on the news. They go into the news business specifically to change minds, and specifically they want to change the minds of conservatives and independents towards the progressive viewpoint.
That’s the fun part of the job, the satisfying part. The part that makes up for the fact that most people in the news media don’t make a great deal of money...’’

‘‘...The real irony... is that the very rich have been disproportionately supporters of Obama and other left-wing causes... and if every billionaire in the country was hanged tomorrow, the toll would lean heavily toward Obama donors. So I guess Lenin got it wrong: The capitalists don’t sell the rope they’re hanged with. They donate it.
Seems like a bad deal to me, but what do I know?’’

‘‘...Most liberal ‘innocents’ work very hard to maintain their innocence, because they love their innocent certitudes: There is a pony in there somewhere, kumbaya, at bottom every person is good, and all the rest of the moronic drivel that makes up their canon.
And they will cling to these childish beliefs right up to their deathbeds, assuring themselves that true communism has never been tried, that capitalism is the greatest threat to humanity and liberty ever created, and that they and theirs have a monopoly on ‘the good,’ while everybody else is ‘evil.’
That they are able to maintain these beliefs in rainbows and lollipops, even while standing on a mountain of bones created by them, [is]
because, while they are indeed self-made naifs, they are also deeply stupid. And stupidity, in the end, always extracts its own deadly price.’’

‘‘...People who complain that the country is ungovernable don’t really want to govern. They want to rule.
The U.S. is eminently governable--and very unruly.’’

‘‘For decades now, students have been taught to search for an echo of their own ‘voices’ in the books they read and to reject those works that they believe ‘exclude’ them, a remarkably narrow approach to the arts. I don’t want to hear my own ‘voice’ in what I read; it bores me.†-

‘‘The very language of lit[erary]
theory is hostile and laden with suspicion of conspiracy. Plus, so many... critics... are terrible writers and worse logicians. A beautiful line of poetry makes the heart sing and the mind explode with insight. The goal of an English department should be to facilitate that transcendent moment. How sad it is to be a parent sending my children to college and wishing they could hope to experience the ice-breaking joy I felt. It won’t happen. Even in high school they are being trained not to love literature but to critique it...’’

And from the comments, apparently there's a lot of people who either don't understand or are willfully misunderstanding the difference.

‘‘If the only way to obtain what you call ‘your rights’ is by compelling someone else to give up theirs, then what you are really demanding is not a right, but a means of imposing your values and your convictions on someone else. And that is not a matter of civil rights. It is an ideological and religious war, with government siding with whoever has the most money to invest in strategic campaign contributions...’’

‘‘It is getting increasingly... difficult to... consider the works of the progressives while maintaining the belief that the intentions of most people are good. People with good intentions usually don’t have to lie so much.’’

‘‘Worse than the effects of Obamacare - which may or may not be permanent, but which will certainly be severe - is the effect on the citizenry of watching the nation’s leaders and legislators come before the public and lie, day after day. Not picayune lies, but baldfaced, insulting, comprehensive and utterly immoral lies. It’s as if they haven’t even the dignity to pretend they are addressing a concerned or informed citizenry - they simply reject the idea of truth or honesty, then lie about their own lies. It is a disgusting and dishonorable display of complete mendacity, unleavened even by any thought that these charlatans might be lying in the service of their country. They are small people, who think - or perhaps hope - that the citizens are as small as they are.’’
