Monty Python meets Islamic militancy.
(A reader reacts: ‘‘Is it bad that I found that to be the funniest thing I’ve read all day and probably all week?’’)

Spring in London comes earlier than it does here in Indiana. If this year matches 2009, about a week from now you could take the U9 bus to Hillington, and enjoy the amazing display of bluebells in Old Park Wood. (That’s provided you’re there, not here!)

Bill Quick found this goody at Mike’s place:
The 545 ProblemThis was written in 1988. You’d think we might have learned.
By Charley Reese
One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president and nine Supreme Court justices — 545 human beings out of the 235 million — are directly, legally, morally and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country...
When you fully grasp the plain truth that [those] 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.
If the tax code is unfair, it’s because they want it unfair. If the budget is in the red, it’s because they want it in the red. If the Marines are in Lebanon, it’s because they want them in Lebanon.
There are no insoluble government problems. Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take it.
Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exist disembodied mystical forces like ‘‘the economy,’’ ‘‘inflation’’ or ‘‘politics’’ that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do...
You’d think we might have done something.

Jim Butcher:
‘‘The pen is mightier than the sword.’’Read the whole thing.
...Intangible fear can be mightier than the sword, too. Hell, it has been for quite a while now. Don’t believe me? Try getting on an airplane without taking your shoes off...
That's the power of fear, guys.
...
The threat isn’t aimed at our government or our borders or our resources. It’s targeting something far more precious--our identity. It’s changing us, who we are, how we live, and not for the better...
