Power just glitched here

Somebody’s car probably tapped a pole somewhere in the neighborhood.

The weather service says the ice on those branches is supposed to be ¼-inch thick by midnight.

Some fresh-ground “Australian Mountaintop” coffee, with a splash of whipping cream. (And sugar.)

Goes altogether too well with iced persian rolls.

Restless night

Being kept up late by tornado watches and severe thunderstorms isn’t all that unusual around here.

What is unusual is that it’s happening in February. And it’s the second week in a row.


(And we didn’t get hit nearly as badly as some folks did...)

Spoiling myself on Christmas eve

I've been trying to lose some weight, meaning avoiding morning snacks.  But what with the holiday and all, today on the way in I picked up a couple of vanilla-iced crullers.  To go with them, fresh brewed some Mexican Altura, (adding enough whipping cream and sugar to tint it just slightly darker than a manila folder).

There was supposed to be a picture, but they're all gone.  You'll just have to imagine.

Christmas shopping completed

Final purchases were:  A stuffed toy black cat (actually to be given in early January), and a floor lamp.

I belive that warrants a small Scotch.

In case anybody wonders how things turned out...

We got some snow, then enough rain to melt most of it, then more snow in the wee hours, leaving a 3-inch cover on the pavements.  Could have been worse. (Folks north got 3/8" ice, then more snow.)

The National Weather Service says temps here will be back in the 40s on Wednesday.  Go figure.

WHAM!!!

"What What What!?"
Oh.  A strolling thunderstorm cell has snuck up behind us, and announced its presence with a nearby cloud-to-ground strike.

The birds, who began their dawn chorus a half-hour ago, chirp on unaffected.
Might as well get up.  The alarm will go off in a minute or so anyway.
