Why we love them

Whenever the nation is faced with a big problem that the people demand be solved, we can always be sure of one thing: A group of Republican senators will scramble away from their party’s principles to join Democrats in some grand “compromise” scheme. - Investor’s Business Daily

As it happened

World Trade Towers and Pentagon Attacked
Posted by CmdrTaco on Tue Sep 11, 2001 09:12 AM
from the you-can't-make-this-stuff-up dept.

The World Trade Towers in new york were crashed into by 2 planes, one on each tower, 18 minutes apart. Nobody really knows who did it, but the planes were big ones. Normally I wouldn't consider posting this on Slashdot, but I'm making an exception this time because I can't get news through any of the conventional websites, and I assume I'm not alone. Update We're having server problems. Sorry. Updated info, both towers havecollapsed, pentagon hit by 3rd plane. Part of it has collapsed.
And as for all that talk about how 9/11 “brought America together” (only for it to be driven apart by Evil Bush):
We had it coming... • (Score:5, Insightful)

They hit tower one of the WTC and *now toppled both over*. And got the pentagon too..

Now, a couple things.. this is bad, this is really bad..

Apparently it was Palestinian terrorists that did it (so TV is reporting)..

If it really was Palestinians, as much as I hate to say this.. I sort of understand..

before I start, I am a normal American white guy, am open minded, and think every race in the world has a right to their own safety and piece (including Americans).. I have absolutely nothing to do with the Arab israeli conflict (I am not arab, or Jewish, or anything like that), nor do I know any of either side closely at all..

But I was in Isreal once on business, and I saw what the Israelies do to the Palestinians, and what I saw made me sick to be an American because of how our government supports what the Israelis do to those people..

Basically, the isrealis take palestinian land bit by bit to make settlements for Israelis only, and shoot/run over/kill Palestinians with the guns, helicopters and bullets that we, America give the Israelis.

We dont report these travesties on American news (though you can get it on the BBC, CBC and other foreign outlets, and watch Israelis shoot with machine guns, 12 year old arab kids throwing rocks).

It is worse than south Africa, and I go as far to say, that the Israelis have put the Palestinians in concentration camp like conditions for the last 20 years or so, bulldozing their houses for their land, shooting their kids, controlling their land, their economy and choking them off one by one..

And when other countries like the Africans try to tell the truth (yes, the Israelis are racists..absolutely, they have dual licence plates for Palestine cars, dont let them drive on the same roads as Israelis, and occupy their country).

And we, the United states government, give more money, bombs, guns and weapons to Israel than to any other country in the world in foreign aid.., knowing (and allowing0 the Israelis to shoot, maim and rob more palestians of there property, lives and freedom.

And we have been doing that for 20 years now at least..

What else should we have expected really?

This terrorism really sucks, .. but we should also look at what we have been doing too the last 20 years.. and why a people felt so driven to do this to us..
Good old moral equivalence. I wonder if “takochan” has rethought his position over the last seven years. Along with the folks who moderated him “+5.”

The entire thread (which contains many cut-and-pastes from various MSM sources, posted in real time) is here.

LATER: My point isn’t to attack “takochan” in particular (I’ve removed his contact info, although it’s available in the original post), but to demonstrate that the meme that the events of 9/11 produced instant unanimity is false. There were plenty of apoligists, excuse-makers, and blame-America-firsters, both in the Slashdot thread, elsewhere on the internet, and bloviating in the MSM. Most were shouted down, only to resurface when it became evident that America might actually attempt to do something about its radical Muslim enemies.

Many of those people excuse their positions by blaming George Bush.
They are liars.

“...just bring some beer, a collar, and a wedding ring.”

Ready now?

This is what happens when you let flyover women out of the kitchen and allow them firearms. They immediately turn freaky and sexy on you, slap on corsets, pick up riding crops, start lesbian orgies and call flyover men up in the middle of the night demanding they come over and join in. This is why, in fact, gun control is so disfavored in flyover country, and it is why so many men stay in flyover country. Hordes of crop-wielding lesbian freaky women stalk the streets after midnight, looking for man flesh...

After that, you KNOW you want to read the whole thing.

The Religion of Malignantly Narcissistic Entitlement

Latest London lunacy from Stephen Pollard:

Later this month it’s Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. It's one of the holiest days of the Jewish calendar, so I’d be obliged, please, if you'd all stay at home, turn off the TV and refrain from your usual activities. Ten days after that it’s Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, when Jews fast and spend the day in synagogue. So I've also asked my Times colleagues not to work then. And I will be mightily offended if I learn afterwards that any of them have been eating.

You might not think I am being serious. But if I was Head of Democratic Services at Tower Hamlets Council in East London, I would be. Last week John Williams e-mailed each of the borough's 51 councillors with a similar instruction.

For the duration of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month, they are, he told them - every one of them, Muslim, Catholic, Jew or atheist - to behave during council meetings as strict Muslims. They are not to eat or drink; they are to break for Muslim prayers; they are to do as they are ordered by the Muslim religion...
But here’s the kicker:
It should come as no surprise that it is not the borough's Muslim councillors who are demanding that their non-Muslim colleagues obey Islam. As almost always, it is a caricature liberal-left non-Muslim idiot who thinks he is being racially aware who does the real harm to race relations.
Why do I think that the “Head of Democratic Services” wouldn’t be anywhere near as quick to accommodate Pollard’s request.

(Corrected version posted at 00:53, shortly after I discovered that the final paragraph of the quote– which makes a significant difference– had vanished during the editing process. And howz’at for a MSM-style explanation?)

Who’s “reactionary?”

Melanie Philips has some advice for David Cameron... and John McCain:

In Britain and America - as in other parts of the Western world, too - an enormous gulf now yawns between leaders and led.

People have concluded that politicians of all parties seem to inhabit a world apart, governed by self-interest, cynicism, corruption, incompetence, deep contempt for the electorate and an incorrigible instinct to deceive them.

Politicians know this. Which is why they all purport to stand on a platform of “change.”
...Here's where British Tories should be paying close attention - McCain is not popular with truly conservative Republicans.
As a result, the danger was that they would not turn out for him on election day. And exactly the same danger is lurking for David Cameron. If conservatively-minded voters want to turf Labour out but have no enthusiasm for the Tories, the risk is they will simply stay at home...

Like McCain and Obama, Cameron too has grasped the public's anti-establishment mood.

But he made the error of assuming that the reactionary old order to be overturned was conservatism, while change, hope and progress resided on the Left.

But this is a caricature which, although an article of faith among the media, bears scant relation to reality...

We just gotta get “organized”

Mark Philip Alger reminds us:

A so-called “community activist” is better known to people with historical perspective that goes back before -- say -- 1970 as a rabblerouser.  A trouble maker.  An agitprop.  They engage in a great deal of persiflage designed to persuade their “clients” that they (the organizers) are selflessly working to better the clients’ lives.  But little they do actually serves to improve those lives.  Instead, what all the effort accomplishes is to build a political power base for the activist.
Obama’s early resume entry as a community organizer -- which, before Palin called bullshit on him, was one of his major claims of qualification for office -- is the kind of sinecure that leftists carve out for themselves when they can’t -- or won’t -- get a real job...  You can judge the value of the service by the condition of the community being --scorn quotes -- “organized.”
You can always spot one by the name of his organization:... euphemistic neo-Marxist officialese names like Community Outreach Family Council that say nothing and cover a multitude of sins.
Use of euphemism to conceal purpose, a.k.a. sociology-speak.  Or corrupting the language.
