Where is the Gulag Anne Frank? Where is the Marxist Willie Loman? Where is the thrilling melodrama of the Katyyn Forest survivor who, post war, hunts down his father’s killers? There were huge crimes committed by Communist regimes but for the most part they have passed unnoticed. The execution of Sacco & Vanzetti inspired far more drama, protests, and coverage than the contemporaneous murder of millions of agricultural workers in the Soviet Union. You’d think our chattering classes were embarrassed or something...

A comment at Instapundit:
The author of the piece writes that ‘‘Rabbit S[cience]F[iction]’’ is being poisoned by status envy rather than leftism. To that I would ask, ‘‘What is the difference between status envy and leftism?’’ And monologuing like an in-training Evil League of Evil member should, I would then respond ‘‘There is no difference.’’Related.

Just how badly does the American Red Cross want to keep secret how it raised and spent over $300 million after Hurricane Sandy?Yep, wouldn’t want those other charities to find out. It might get in the way of executive bonuses.
The charity has hired a fancy law firm to fight a public request we filed with New York state, arguing that information about its Sandy activities is a ‘‘trade secret.’’

Lawmakers Wednesday voiced concern over the Obama administration’s plans for monitoring individuals who hold security clearances...The senators apparently find little ‘‘constitutional question’’ about ‘‘continuously evaluating’’ the citizenry, of course.
Sens. Charles Grassley (R-IA) and Ron Wyden (D-OR) said... that the stated possibility of continuous evaluation of legislative officials [especially members of Congress - O.G.] would raise constitutional questions...

I was always curious of what might have happened if the original National Socialists had gained power in a Germany that had a 2nd Amendment... Never would I have guessed that I would have to actually worry about it.
Alas, it seems the purveyors of the latest [progressiver] iteration of Nationalist Socialism seem to be seizing the opportunity to show us.
‘‘Unthinkable! It couldn’t happen here! Never again...’’
Let’s see; we've got big central government run by party faithful; crony capitalist cartels with ‘‘seats at the table’’ exercising inordinate direct input (often word for word injection) regarding the crafting of legislation and regulatory controls; consolidation of media/propaganda assets into pliable network blocs which closely coordinate the distribution of regime friendly narratives; widespread use of intimidation and other institutional means to suppress ungood speech; enabling acts out the wazoo; discretionary/situational rule of law which flows in one monolithic direction; a networked domestic surveillance apparatus primarily aimed at the citizenry - with specific internal targeting of [potential] domestic dissenters; official arming of [other] international fascist entities; countries falling like dominoes to aforementioned fascists in service of domestic agenda; arming of criminal cartels and other forces of disruption in ostensibly allied countries; active programs (official and otherwise) to disarm law-abiding citizens; massive dislocation of neighboring ethnic populations and ongoing efforts to engineer domestic demographics; distribution of jobs and benefits via a codified system of ethnic/racial/gender classification; widespread use of national civilian government assets to directly harass and disrupt various social and economic activities of perceived domestic ideological rivals; official financial and logistical support for regime friendly activists...etc., etc.
Suddenly that unidentifiable duck-sounding thing is starting to goosestep like one...

Pixy Misa asks the musical question:
What the hell is it with Democrats and totalitarian iconography? They don't even seem to care whether they steal from communists, fascists, or movie posters for 1984.It’s a cultural thing.
Like the Japanese and Hello Kitty.
Easier to explain, though.
(And don’t forget this, from 2007!)

Glenn Reynolds:
Are there any federal agencies that actually help the little guy?...
Actually, I’d start with the USMC, but I don’t think those are the kind of ‘‘federal agencies’’ Glenn means.

SENATE VOTES AGAINST U.N. RESOLUTION 2117
In a 53-46 vote, the Senate narrowly passed a measure that will stop the United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty... The...treaty, which has been championed by the Obama Administration, would have effectively placed a global ban on the import and export of small firearms. The ban would have affected all private gun owners in the U.S. and had language that would have implemented an international gun registry... on all private guns and ammo.
Astonishingly, 46 out of our 100 United States Senators were willing to give away our Constitutional rights to a foreign power.
Here are the 46..:
- Baldwin (D-WI)
- Baucus (D-MT)
- Bennett (D-CO)
