Reynolds assumes Republicans possess intelligence, integrity (again)

Facts Not In Evidence  Dept
Instapundit:
...somebody on the House side needs to go through the NIH/CDC budgets for next year and strip out all the non-disease funding and move it over to infectious diseases, since apparently they could achieve miracle cures with just a little more money.
Like that’s gonna happen...

Under the weather...

Richard McEnroe, blogger, Blair’s place denizen, and long-time internet presence, is in hospital

...for an irregular heartbeat, enlarged heart, and congestive heart failure. His heart is twice the norm.  The heart is pumping only 15% of the blood out...  Currently [October 10], he is having two procedures...  If all goes well they won’t install a pacemaker.

and gunblogger ‘‘Borepatch’’ got tangled up on his bike:
7 broken ribs, a broken collar bone, and a bruised lung.  I was lucky that the lung didn’t collapse or get punctured. They had me in the ICU for almost 24 hours.
Get mended quick, guys... we need you!

(Borepatch via Brickmuppet. Thanks.)

Answer: Two more years of whining ‘‘because we only control two-thirds of the government’’

Roger Simon:

What Happens if Republicans Win?

That’s only if we’re lucky.

Elsewhere:  ‘‘HerbN’’ comments at Instapundit:
And then in 2017 if they have the House, the Senate, and the Presidency they won’t be able to do anything because it could cost them the majority.
True, dat.

Well, THIS will do *wonders* for e-publishing!

Watching Me, Watching You  Dept
The Register:
Adobe spies on reading habits over unencrypted web because your ‘privacy is important’

Adobe confirmed its Digital Editions software insecurely phones home your ebook reading history to Adobe – to thwart piracy.

And the company insisted the secret snooping is covered in its terms and conditions.

Version 4 of the application makes a note of every page read, and when, in the digital tomes it accesses, and then sends that data over the internet unencrypted to Adobe...
...because some spook monitoring my reading is exactly what I want in an ebook!

Read the Register story for a list of what’s transmitted.  TeleRead has a howto for seeing what’s transmitted about you.

And you may wish to add ‘‘adelogs.adobe.com’’ to your HOSTS file.

UPDATE (141001)Make That ‘‘Scoundrels’’
Yet another US official has played the ‘‘think of the children’’ card, taking Apple and Google to task for implementing stronger encryption policies in their mobile platforms.

Outgoing Attorney General Eric Holder said that child predators could use the encryption settings in mobile platforms to evade authorities and hide illegal images and content on their devices from law enforcement.
Well, that didn’t take long!

An Echo, not a Choice

Mark Steyn, on political failure:

America has a two-party system in which one party is committed to making things worse and the other party isn’t committed to making things any better...

I’d like a bit more of a choice than that.

One is evil, the other useless.  Disappointing, isn’t it?
