Yes, LET’S talk about Presidential failure

When Dissent Was Still Patriotic Dept.

Bill Sammon, Fox News:
On the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, just minutes before learning of the terrorist attacks on America, Democratic strategist James Carville was hoping for President Bush to fail, telling a group of Washington reporters: “I certainly hope he doesn't succeed.”
...
Minutes later, as news of the terrorist attacks reached the hotel conference room where the Democrats were having breakfast with the reporters, Carville announced: “Disregard everything we just said! This changes everything!”
So you see, it’s wrong only when Republicans do it...

Public sector heard from

Strange lead paragraph at the New York Post:

[New York City’s economic downturn] will be “deep and protracted” and likely lag behind the rest of the country because of declining tax revenues, according to a budget watchdog group.
So if Bloomberg raises the city’s taxes so they take all of everybody’s money, things will be just fine... ’cause the economy’s all about government income, right?

Also, the story’s account (in its final five paragraphs) of Warren Buffett’s CNBC interview makes for an â€œinteresting” comparison with the one at Kausfiles.

The truth about “sobriety checkpoints”

Not that we didn’t already know...

I guaran-flaming-tee you -- my paw to Odin -- within one decade of the passage of a DWI Checkpoint law, “Sobriety Checkpoints” will be a code-word for “Revenue Generation Checkpoints That Occasionally Nab a Drunk Driver.”

And don’t sodding tell me any different -- I've been in law enforcement for fifteen years and I damned well know how the system works.
Unfortunately, the M.A.D.D. gang and its enablers are more interested in harassing citizens “raising awareness” than actually controlling the problem.  Really want to do something about drunk driving?  LawDog tells you how.  Go read.

The Press

Well, he *does* have a point...

Fox News:

Addressing the nation on his weekly television show on Sunday, the Venezuelan president laid out plans for his next crusade, ordering his governors and mayors to draw up a “map of the media war” to determine which media are “in the hands of the oligarchy.”

Chavez said that “if it weren't for the attack, the lies, manipulation and the exaggeration” of the private media networks, the Venezuelan government would have the support of at least 80 percent of the population.
t-bird notes:
Multiple newspapers, multiple TV stations will present the opposition viewpoint?

Venezuela is more advanced democratically than we are?!
