The Press

Call ’em on it

That goes double  Dept.
...Dude, the fact that you’re angry doesn’t give you some sort of a pass from the norms of civil society.  Or, if it does, be prepared to tolerate a lot of things that you’ll find intolerable.  Because, you know, a lot of people are angry. - Glenn Reynolds
What I want to to know is whether ‘‘t[ying politicians]... to the back of a Chevy pickup truck and drag[ging] them around a parking lot until they [see] the light...’’ is viewed as acceptable by the Des Moines Register, and whether they (and their parent, Gannett Corporation) believe the same treatment would be fair if meted out to our less-enlightened newspaper editors and columnists.

Just to establish some boundaries, you know.

Linkage

Not my type?

Whoever is compiling Ace’s sidebar this week resurrected this 2010 discussion over at Ed Driscoll’s about Helvetica- the typeface and the movie.  The title - Liberal Fascism: The Font - summarizes it pretty well, but any post that ties together Tom Wolfe, Mies van der Rohe, the Nazis, Mad Men, Amtrak, and Form 1040 is worth reading all the way through.  And don’t miss the comments.

One wonders how the late-twentieth-century would have looked had the London Passenger Transport Board been less protective of its Johnston Sans.

A Briton is 5 times more likely to die from government health care than an American is to die from a gunshot.
Assuring in this time of Obamacare.

In Passing

But did ‘‘Richard Windsor’’ quit, too?

Washington Examiner:

Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson has decided to resign her post as top environmental regulator, a move that comes as Congress applies pressure on her for complicating oversight of the EPA by using at least one secondary email address under an alias.
...
Lawmakers and the EPA inspector general wonder if Jackson used a private email account created under an alias to develop... [EPA] ...policies in a way that would be invisible to watchdogs and congressional oversight.
...
Jackson used a private email under the alias ‘‘Richard Windsor’’ to correspond with EPA colleagues...

UPDATE, related (via Glenn) (121228 18:00):
Self-answering Questions  Dept
Investors Business Daily:  Is The EPA’s Lisa Jackson Trying To Dodge A Federal Probe?
Maybe it's a coincidence that Jackson... resigned only days after the Justice Department agreed to hand over 12,000 emails from Jackson's "Richard Windsor" account.
Coincidence.  Yeah, that’s it!

Clipfile - December 20, 2012

‘‘For all the crocodile tears that the left spills, after all the children’s blood that it pumps into a syringe and then spill out on paper, the left culturally identifies with the shooters and the shooters culturally identify with the left.  They are both odd men out in a place that they don't belong, dressing up their inner ugliness in a false sense of superiority.  The shooters believe that they are superior intellects victimized by the mediocre people around them who are unable to appreciate their genius.  That is the cursory bio of every leftist who troops down to New York, San Francisco or Portland.

And both the left and the shooters agree that the people you are shooting at should not have guns.’’
- Daniel Greenfield
