Radio

Oh, and an update re: Clear Channel

Turns out the axe was supposed to fall Tuesday, the bettter to have the chopping sounds masked by the inaugural uproar.

Well, it was so noisy[1] that Radio-Info’s message board went down mid-afternoon, and still isn’t back up.

LOL of the day

(Actually a couple of days ago, but what do I know.  Ahem...)

Wherein C.G. Hill one-ups Lileks(!)

Lileks:

...they also seemed to specialize in oily young managers who oozed a slick of avarice, lechery, failure and contempt.  Three out of four I can take if I must, but they hit all the wrong notes.
Hill:
Sounds like the Law Firm from Hell.  “Good morning, Avarice, Lechery, Failure and Contempt.  How may I neglect your call?”
Go read ’em both.

Okay, child pr0n absolutists, is *this* what you wanted?

Three teenage girls who allegedly sent nude or semi-nude cell phone pictures of themselves, and three male classmates in a Greensburg Salem High School who received them, are charged with child pornography.  Police said the girls are 14 or 15, and the boys charged with receiving the photos are 16 or 17...

Police said the girls are being charged with manufacturing, disseminating or possessing child pornography while the boys face charges of possession. - WPXI.COM: “High Schoolers Accused of Sending Naked Pictures to Each Other”
apparently so...
In the WPXI story, which included contributions from the Associated Press, [Greensburg, Pennsylvania Police Department Captain George] Saranko indicated that authorities decided to file the child pornography charges to send a strong message to other minors who might consider sending such photos to friends.[1]   “It’s very dangerous,” he said.  “Once it’s on a cell phone, that cell phone can be put on the Internet where everyone in the world can get access to that juvenile picture.  You don’t realize what you are doing until it’s already done.” - msnbc.com:  “‘Sexting’ surprise: Teens face child porn charges”
regardless of the consequences...
The mother of a Greensburg Salem High School teenager involved in an alleged “sexting scheme is speaking out, saying her son did nothing wrong. Authorities said three teenage girls allegedly sent nude or semi-nude cell phone pictures of themselves to three male classmates.  Those involved are facing charges, and the mother, who asked to have her identity concealed, said she is outraged...

“This is going to ruin his life,” the boy’s mother said.  “My son did not know this girl. He had seen her around school, and it was texted to him.  He did not take the picture.” - WPXI.COM:  “Mom of Teen Accused in ‘Sexting’ Scheme Speaks Out”
Looks like a great way to “get even” with somebody you might have a grudge against, too.

The first thing I’ll do...

The Register:

...a court affadavit says that when rescuers reached his crashed aircraft, they found “evidence including a book of campsites in America missing its pages on Alabama and Florida, and a bullet-point list scribbled on the back of a book that read: ‘cracked windshield, window imploded, bleeding profusely’.”
The List:
No74:  When I create a multimedia presentation of my plan designed so that my five-year-old advisor can easily understand the details, I will not label the disk “Project Overlord” and leave it lying on top of my desk.

Classroom cuisine?

Ayers bounced by Canada

An American education professor, one of the founders of a radical 1960s group known as the Weather Underground, which was responsible for a number of bombings in the United States in the early 1970s, was turned back at the Canadian border last night.

Dr. William Ayers, a professor of education at the University of Illinois-Chicago and a leader in educational reform, was scheduled to speak at the Centre for Urban Schooling at University of Toronto’s Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. But that appearance has now been temporarily cancelled.

“I don't know why I was turned back,” Ayers said in an interview this morning... - Toronto Star
I can think of any number of reasons.  Too bad we had to let him back in.

Thanks to “alexthechick” for brightening my day.

I *had* hoped that this might be a better year

Siamon’s gone.
Mark and Toni, I’m so sorry.

o-o-O-o-o

And, something I’d meant to do earlier, but time got away:  Mentioning some friends-of-friends who I missed commemorating here, through inattention or for a lack of the right words.

Og’s.Cooney.
Tam’s Mittens.

We miss ’em.

India listens...

The cabal has met...

And the decision is: Sunday.

Thanks to Shermlock for the Artwork.

Later:  Oh golly, Roberta’s artwork is eyebleed city.

(Editor’s note (or what would have been an editor’s note, if this blog had an editor, which it does not (which should (by now) be obvious)):  The meeting of the cabal actually took place about a week ago (not to be confused with the secret cabal meeting (of the PFFTDOBD), which was yesterday), but I am only getting around to posting about it (that is, the regular cabal meeting, not the secret cabal meeting- concerning which I am sworn to... erm... secrecy) today, having been out of town and faced with problematic internet service (and an uncooperative.laptop), about which (the internet service, not the laptop, which is hopeless) more anon, should I have the strength...)
